Screen Printing Tips & FAQs
Screen printing, also known as silkscreen printing, is a technique that utilizes a mesh screen, ink, and a squeegee to transfer a stenciled graphic onto apparel.
Spectrum employs plastisol inks, which are both phthalate-free and lead-free to comply with California regulations. This oil-based ink requires heat to cure properly.
For optimal results, high-resolution print-ready files that are layered and separated by color are preferred.
**Recommended File Formats:**
- Adobe Illustrator
- EPS
- Vector
Low-resolution files are not suitable for reproducing high-quality graphics. JPEG and PNG files can be accepted if submitted at the appropriate size. Low-resolution files can be converted for an additional art charge.
Spectrum currently limits the number of colors to a maximum of eight.
We can accommodate any quantity requested; however, please note that smaller quantities result in a higher price per shirt. Pricing is based on the number of ink colors and the number of prints.
To extend the life of your decorated garment, turn it inside out before washing to prevent abrasion from items such as zippers. Wash in cold water at low temperatures, and separate light colors from dark colors, as well as separating white garments. When possible, use a mild laundry detergent and tumble dry on a low temperature.
Embroidery Tips & FAQs
Tips for Uploading Images for Embroidery:
- Use large and clear graphics for the best embroidery results.
- Fonts should be at least 1/4" in height.
- Avoid uploads with photos or gradients, as they may not produce satisfactory results.
- Logos work exceptionally well, except those with fine details or numerous colors.
- We review every design for embroidery. If we determine that we cannot produce your design with optimal quality, we will contact you via email to suggest changes.
An expert with experience in the field can estimate the number of stitches in a design, but the exact count will only be known once the design is fully digitized.
Yes, we accept and utilize any stitch files, tapes, or .dst files that are submitted.
Yes, we handle the digitizing process in-house. Any file that is legible can be submitted for digitization.
Digitizing incurs a one-time fee, which may vary based on the size of the logo and the total number of stitches.
SIZING: The smallest text we can accommodate is 3/16” in height. The maximum embroidery area can range from 10 to 15 inches wide, depending on the garment.
- Hats: Maximum Size: 4.75”W x 2.25”H
Sublimation Printing Tips & FAQs
- Special inks
- Special paper
- 100% polyester material
The preferred material is 100% polyester. 100% cotton or any blended shirts will not achieve the desired colors during the transfer process.
White is the best color for dye sublimation.
Dark-colored shirts are not recommended. While sublimation on lighter-colored shirts is possible, it will significantly alter the colors transferred onto the fabric. The colors of the shirt may overpower the logo, leading to less vibrant results.
Our maximum imprint size is 15" x 17".
Costs vary based on quantity and logo size. Setup fees depend on the number of images and/or locations. Some images may require edits and/or additional art time.
Heat Transfer FAQs
- Heat transfer involves designing or sending an image or logo to be used for the transfer. This image is printed onto special paper using a heat transfer printer.
- The transfer paper is then placed on the fabric of the clothing, and a heat press machine applies heat and pressure to facilitate the transfer.
- The heat melts the ink on the transfer paper, allowing it to bond with the fabric.

No, once the transfer has been applied, it cannot be reapplied.
